Civil Liberties: Ensuring Human Rights are Guaranteed and Protected for Everyone
The Bill of Rights was written with the explicit intent to protect United States citizens’ civil liberties. The Founding Fathers firmly believed that everyone should be granted unalienable rights and freedoms by law, and established the first ten amendments to the Constitution to protect those rights. Sometimes known as human rights, these rights include freedom of religion, freedom of assembly, freedom of speech, freedom of press, the right to privacy, and the right to equal treatment under the law and due process. Many minority groups have experienced repression despite these laws, and although these rights are guaranteed by law, the history of abuses towards people of color, minority religious groups, and minority ethnic groups is deep-seated in U.S. history. Institutionalized racism, bigotry, xenophobia, and hate crimes are still present in today’s society despite the laws in place to protect against them. Even the judicial system has contributed towards rampant disparities against racial, ethnic, and religious minority groups. Attrition Coalition has dedicated this activism platform towards fighting for the Civil Liberties of ALL citizens, working towards the fair and just treatment of minority groups to help ensure that human rights are guaranteed and protected for everyone.
