The Issue: Steve Bannon was not elected by the American people for any role in government. He has not be vetted by Congress. He is now in charge of writing our foreign policy and representing a nation that has not chosen him, and largely disagrees with his perspectives.
Why is this a problem?
Steve Bannon is a man with a dangerous agenda. He is the Chief Strategist and Senior Counselor to United States President Donald Trump. Prior to assuming those positions, Bannon was the chief executive officer of Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. He is a Navy veteran with a masters in national security studies from Georgetown, who then went on to attend Harvard Business School. He worked in finance for Goldman Sachs and as a film producer before he joined on and served as Executive Director of Breitbart News, an online website dedicated to spreading “alt-right”, or white nationalist propaganda. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, the site promotes racist, anti-Muslim, and anti-immigrant ideas, as well as promoting white nationalism, a movement that opposes multiculturalism and believes in the supremacy of the white race. He holds anti-establishment views and has been accused of domestic violence and anti-semitism. He has lashed out against the media and has referred to it as the ‘opposition party,’ which has largely been identified as gas-lighting tactics meant to discredit truth and facts.
But don’t just take our word for it:
“Darkness is good. Dick Cheney. Darth Vader. Satan. That’s power. It only helps us when they (liberals) get it wrong. When they’re blind to who we are and what we’re doing.” -Steve Bannon, The Hollywood Reporter
“The appointment of Mr. Bannon is something which is a radical departure from any National Security Council in history. The role of the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff has been diminished, I understand, with this reorganization. One person who is indispensable would be the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, in my view. So, it’s of concern, this `reorganization.’” –Senator John McCain (R-AZ), CNN
“Steve Bannon sitting on the National Security Council is dangerous and unprecedented. He must be removed” -Senator Bernie Sanders (D-VT), CNN
“Chairman of Joint Chiefs and DNI treated as afterthoughts in Cabinet level principals meetings. And where is CIA?? Cut out of everything?” -Former National Security Adviser Susan Rice, CNN
“President George W. Bush instructed his top political adviser, Karl Rove, never to appear at a National Security Council meeting. But the president also knew that the signal he wanted to send to the rest of his administration,…the public, and… especially to the military, is that, ‘The decisions I’m making that involve life and death for the people in uniform will not be tainted by any political decisions,’ “ -Former White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten, The New York Times
“My biggest concern is that, under law, there are only two statutory advisers to the National Security Council — the DNI and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Pushing them out [was] a big mistake. They both bring perspective, judgment, and experience to bear that every president — whether they like it or not — finds useful.” –Former Secretary of Defense Bob Gates, NPR
[The NSC] “sadly has some really questionable people on it,” -Senator Tim Caine (D-VA), Fox News
How can you help?
Contact your state and local representatives and urge them to support a new bill introduced by Representative Stephanie Murphy (H.R.804) designed to protect the National Security Council from political interference, a.k.a., Steve Bannon. Call and Say:
I am calling to oppose the appointment of Steve Bannon to the National Security Council. While there is no current legislation requiring oversight of appointees, this appointment is a clear violation of ethics and national security. I ask that you support or introduce legislation insisting on screening of all high placed committee members, including the NSC.
We didn’t elect #PresidentBannon and he has no place on the NSC. Ask your rep to push for Congress approval of NSC members. #BeTheChange
Senators across party lines agree Steve Bannon is a danger to American security on the NSC. Push your local rep to ban him. #BeTheChange

He cannot be allowed to take precedent in National Security matters over the National Security Council. We need to fight back and keep Bannon from hijacking our government.
